Bio

RAM

From Sintra, Portugal where the Sierra plunges into the waves of the Atlantic, Michael Caeiro, a.k.a RAM, has toiled over many years to take the art of graffiti to a whole new level. A former graphic designer and design teacher, RAM’s unique, freestyle approach very much follows its own rules. He is a true global wanderer who never forgets his roots and as such also dabbles in “Land Art” in some of the most obscure locations around the world. Together with Mar, he forms half of the Arm Collective.

Interview

What has been your inspiration for the EASTPAK Artist Studio Bag(s)?
My inspiration for these two bags, were for one, my actual current line, in which i'm using Gold, and my character, which is a character i usually use in my work.

The second bag, is a more psychedelic and colorful style, which i have been spreading all over over the world, for the past 5 years or so.

Which city do you live in – can you tell us what it’s best kept secret is?
I don't live in the city, I live in Sintra, a small town, where i was born, and where i hope I'll die, which is close to Lisbon. Sintra is a fantastic place with a Palace, and Castles, and beaches, and the best kept secret about it is the nature side of Sintra, which is an inspiration in my paintings.

When was the last time you did something for the first time?
I think everyday i do something for the first time. Every time paint everything is new about it, the colours, the paint, everything.

Can you name three major things on your ‘bucketlist’ – three things you want to do before you ‘kick the bucket’…
I have some artistic dreams, and some personal dreams. Most of my dreams have been fulfilled, but i have this old project i have with Eastpak, which is to paint this abandoned huge boat in Indonesia, and surf there as well. I want to be a daddy, i need that in my life, and i want to make the "trip of trips", which is to see the earth from space.

The proceeds from the sales of your bag will go entirely to Designers Against AIDS – What are your views on safe sex? Do you personally think it’s still important?
I think sex is important, and i think safe sex is important, when you don't have a partner that you share life with, so i think that the youth should have fun, but also take care of their health. Fun can not clash with one's health, and they are the future.
