The Chilean artist Javier Mena is one of the most striking musicians singing in Spanish today. Her two albums to date have already succeeded in captivating the admiration of both the public and the press. Javiera Mena boasts enormous talent, a natural image and some very danceable melodies that have earned her a legion of fans and devoted followers. Her album Mena, produced by Cristian Heyne bears distinct references to 80s disco and has made a deep impression thanks to its moving love songs and introspective lyrics. In short, Javiera is without a doubt one of the true divas of Spanish technopop.

Interview

What has been your inspiration for the EASTPAK Artist Studio Bag(s)?
The sky in the south of Chile and my cd Mena

Which city do you live in – can you tell us what it’s best kept secret is?
Santiago de Chile. The Botanical Garden on the San Cristóbal hill

When was the last time you did something for the first time?
In Mexico, the quantity of food that I have tried is always new, for example the “mole poblano”, a sauce that has like a million spices and chocolate, in the locality of Cholula, where there is a huge pyramid that they put on top of a church! Seeing that was also something I did for the first time.

Can you name three major things on your ‘bucketlist’ – three things you want to do before you ‘kick the bucket’…
To be with my family. See the Northern Lights or some kind of phenomenon of that category. Make another cd

The proceeds from the sales of your bag will go entirely to Designers Against AIDS – What are your views on safe sex? Do you personally think it’s still important?
It's obvious that we need to have Safe Sex and talk about it, and go back to doing campaigns because lately we have forgotten about the AIDS topic a little, because people don’t know that the figures are increasing.
