Fikera Studio

We decided to transform our Eastpak Artist Studio Bag into a “Roadmap” while in Peru for a documentary. We travelled for 40 days and we filled the bag with the best memories from places we’ve seen and people we met…It was basically our way to carry with us all the amazing experiences we got from this trip.   Inspired by the colorful “chicha culture” and its visual language, we asked to Elliot Túpac, a peruvian artist, to paint our bag. Then, we took it with us all around Peru to research the origin of this surprising phenomenon.

Like a diary, we started to mark the bag with the name of each place we visited: Lima, Iquitos, Amazon Rainforest, Cuzco, Machu Picchu and the Holy Mountain...We took a lot of pictures of the bag in the most amazing landscapes and we asked many people to be taken in pictures with the “chicha bag”…this is the story of our “Chicha Mochilla”.

Interview

What has been your inspiration for the EASTPAK Artist Studio Bag(s)?
We decided to transform our Eastpak Artist Studio Bag into a “Roadmap" while in Peru for a documentary.
We travelled for 40 days and we filled the bag with the best memories from places we've seen and people we met…It was basically our way to carry with us all the amazing experiences we got from this trip. Inspired by the colorful "chicha culture" and its visual language, we asked to Elliot Túpac, a peruvian artist, to paint our bag.

Which city do you live in – can you tell us what it’s best kept secret is?
Best kept secret in Milan…It's a place for real urban insiders and strong stomachs: "la Sciura Maria". An unconventional tavern, hidden at the back of a little bar...The only place where is possible to eat in the kitchen while the "sciura Maria" (an old lovely lady) is cooking just for you and your friend.

As for Madrid, our best kept secret place is of course our studio. A lighting bunker in a residential neighbourood, Acacias, few steps away from the Manzanares river. With its open space, high vaulted ceilings, it's the perfect place to work, to get inspired or, simply, to chill out as you are totally isolated from the outside world!

When was the last time you did something for the first time?
The last time we did something for the first time it was a few years ago, when we decided to quit our employed jobs and decided to start our own company: Fikera Studio.
Can you name three major things on your ‘bucketlist’ – three things you want to do before you ‘kick the bucket’…
.1) We want to open the Fikera Studio Head Quarter in the small island of Neverland.2) We want to meet Peter Pan to ask him if he would like to became our Honorary Chairman.3) And of course, we want Tinker Bell as Art Director and the Lost Boys as creatives.

The proceeds from the sales of your bag will go entirely to Designers Against AIDS – What are your views on safe sex? Do you personally think it’s still important?
Yes, we should never stop to encourage people to talk about AIDS as there will always be new generations which will need to be informed.Safe sex is not just important but necessary…Better be safe than sorry!
