Interview

What has been your inspiration for the EASTPAK Artist Studio Bag(s)?
The bags were an extension of our SS 11 collection, amalgamating a number of subcultures & inspirations from the West & East coasts. Gritty NYC punk attitude married together with the speckles & shades of a summer evening on Venice Beach. Our own take on Americana I guess.

Which city do you live in – can you tell us what it’s best kept secret is?
London via Manchester, Barcelona & New York. Each of these cities has its little gems. Here are some of our best bits,
Barcelona – Pepes secret spicy sauce /The gay nudist beach blasting George Michael, with a concrete 3ft skate bowl next door.
New York – myopenbar.com. Saved Tattoo in Williamsburg and Liquiteria organic juice house.
London – Sunday basketball society, The Joiners Arms, Mama Irene’s snack bar.
Manchester – Plattfields mini ramp, The Tiki bar, Hoya Hoya & Leos fish shop.

When was the last time you did something for the first time?
Everyday… Gotta do something ‘new’ each day to keep things fresh.

Can you name three major things on your ‘bucketlist’ – three things you want to do before you ‘kick the bucket’…
Live every dream
Pina coladas on tap by our infinity pool
Land tricks like Brent Atchley

The proceeds from the sales of your bag will go entirely to Designers Against AIDS – What are your views on safe sex? Do you personally think it’s still important?
We think the awareness is there, but people don’t seem to realise the severity of the consequences a lot of the time. Aids and other sexual issues should be made less taboo, meaning people will feel less ashamed to talk about it and seek guidance. It is definitely important… play safe!
